Help! I think I may be a vampire! Can you tell me if I am or not?
I get this question all the time. I can't answer it for you, but I can give you the following information to help you. This is something only you can answer for yourself. It's not that we don't care, it's that we can not tell you.
1) No one here will ever tell you "yes you are a vampire." Sorry. This is the net. We don't know you and we're not going to tell you something as radical about yourself as that. You just have to figure it out on your own. Additionally, be careful - don't give out info, and don't fall for people claiming they can tell you if you are and/or make you a vampire. See this for more safety information.
2) Try reading through all of the main site as well as some of the other topics in the forums. Read everything you can to really get a clear understanding of what this is. It's neither romantic, nor powerful, and it's certainly not anything to be desired nor sought.
3) ANY changes occurring in sleeping, eating, thirst, strength/weakness need to be addressed by a doctor. Medical conditions need to be eliminated first such as anemia, malnutrition, allergies, or other problems. Minimal recommendations would include a CBC (complete blood count), physical exam, and blood work to ensure no other problems like an STD.
4) Talk to those around you in your life like parents, friends, or others about the way you're feeling. There is no need to mention "vampires" but it is important that you share the effects on your outlook and health. They know you best and should be your first point of contact.
5) Never underestimate the power of change in adolescent development. Everyone goes through unbelievable radical changes that last well into the early 20's. Most males do not even complete growth until their 21st year; most women do not until their 23rd. Additionally, allergies commonly do not show up until this time as well. Know that changes - even drastic ones - are normal for a teenager.
6) There is no "checklist". There is no sign which marks you as a vampire. There are commonly seen traits listed here on the site, but none of them are meant to be taken as diagnostic tools. Having dreams about vampires, or drinking blood, or a fondness for the nighttime are NOT "signs" of being a vampire. Take the time to study the differences between the myths of tv, books, and movies, and real life. It's not glamorous and it's not pretty like fiction.
7) You need to educate yourself on safety, first aid, blood issues and other general health concerns BEFORE EVER CONSIDERING just going off and drinking someone's blood. This is not the way to "find out" if you are a vampire. This is a very serious thing with very real health concerns from catching transmitted diseases to injury/death of the donor. Additionally, do not cut yourself or drink your own blood in an attempt to "find out" if you are a vampire. This is damaging and harmful and if you have a problem with doing this, please seek help.
8) Above all else, accept yourself for who and what you are no matter what. Being a vampire will solve nothing in your life, nor make you a better person. It is fine to be "normal" and you are exactly how you are supposed to be, don't ever think you need to change that by becoming something else. You must learn to love, respect and accept yourself as you are because nothing can make you do so.
